What to Send After a Job Interview

Most people either skip the post-interview note or send a stiff one-liner that reads like a formality. Both are missed chances. Send it the same day

Add the point you wish you had made

Interviews move fast, and most people leave thinking of a better answer they gave too late. The follow-up note is your second chance. If a question caught you flat, add a sentence or two with the answer you would have given. Keep it brief. You are patching one gap, not re-litigating the whole conversation.

Keep it short and get the details right

Five or six sentences is plenty: thanks, the specific reference, your one added point, and a clear line that you are interested and looking forward to next steps. Send separate notes if you met several people, and change enough that they are not identical if the team compares. Get names and titles right. A sloppy note undoes the good the interview did.

Then let the process run

After the note, do not keep messaging. You have made your case in the interview and reinforced it once.
